The scrub is lovely and it’s made with just two natural ingredients that leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. It’s definitely something to be added to your self-care routine!
Why Do We Exfoliate?
First of all, exfoliating is an important part of the skin care routine. It helps to get rid of all those dead skin cells, unclogs the pores, and leaves your skin with a fresh glowing look.
With dead skin cells out of the way moisturizers, like coconut oil, are able to work better.
Is Exfoliation For The Body Only Not The Face?
Exfoliation is for the whole body including the face. With age, the shedding of dead skin cells begins to slow down and our body needs some help to get rid of the build-up. That’s why we need to use an exfoliator to help bring the newer skin cells to the surface.
Can you Use This Scrub To Exfoliate Your Facial Skin?
This homemade body scrub can be used on the face as well as on the body. However, when using it as a facial exfoliator you need to use it a bit differently. Because facial skin is delicate and sensitive skin it needs to be treated more gently.
– Do not exfoliate your face more than once a week! –
To exfoliate your face, smooth the exfoliating scrub gently over your entire face. This exfoliating face scrub then works as a face mask and it’s great on different skin types. Leave the mask on your skin for between ten and fifteen minutes to allow it to work on clearing out your pores.
Before rinsing off, wet your hands and very gently massage the exfoliating scrub over your face. Don’t rub hard, very light pressure is fine otherwise exfoliation can hurt your skin.
Once you’re done, use this two-ingredient homemade face toner to finish. The mix of apple cider vinegar and essential oil will balance your acid mantle and protect your skin against bacteria as well as help to prevent fine lines.
How Does The Exfoliating Scrub Work?
Honey and baking soda are the only ingredients. While the baking soda works as the exfoliant the honey moisturizes the skin.
Honey is antibacterial and can help kill off the bacteria that cause breakouts. It also contains hydrogen peroxide which can help to reduce dark marks.
Baking soda is completely non-toxic and is an antifungal agent so between that and the honey, you have an antifungal antibacterial body scrub and face cleanser.
Natural Versus Chemical Scrubs
By the way, I’m not a dermatologist and this is based on my own personal experience. I have dry sensitive skin and I have used many commercial products as part of my skin care routine.
Between the commercial and natural products, I by far prefer the natural!
However, if you’d like to hear from a dermatologist on skincare and commercial products read this article.
Of course, some commercial products are amazing and work wonders for people. However, in my experience, natural exfoliators are the better way to go! With commercial cleansers and exfoliating scrubs, I had stressed, dry, sensitive skin. I stuck it out for years hoping my skin would improve.
Once I finally swapped over to this natural exfoliating scrub and amazing face toner I regretted not doing it sooner! My face has never been healthier, softer, smoother, or more spot-free. I also, don’t struggle with dry or sensitive skin anymore.
After using the exfoliating scrub and toner, I then use coconut oil as a moisturizer.
Other Benefits Of This Homemade Exfoliating Body Scrub
Besides the skin care benefits already mentioned, this exfoliant is great for helping prevent ingrown hairs. It’s gentle but effective and you can use it as a body wash once or twice a week to unclog pores, remove dead skin cells, discourage ingrown hairs, and help improve skin tone.
So, of course, I recommend exfoliating products that use natural ingredients because I’ve found they work best for me. But you have to experiment and decide what suits you and your budget.
By the way, besides being an amazing skincare product this baking soda and honey body scrub is very budget-friendly!
How To Make The Exfoliating Scrub
Mix 1/4 cup of honey with 1/8 cup of baking soda. Don’t make more than this as you don’t want it to last too long. You could also add a few drops of essential oil like rose water which helps reduce redness, gets rid of acne, and is a great cleanser.
When first mixed it will look smooth and frothy but the longer it sits the ingredients will begin to separate.
Just give it a good stir and use every last drop! It’s great on all skin types, even the more sensitive skin types.
Benefits Of The Body Scrub In A Nutshell
Using this scrub to exfoliate the skin helps new skin cells come to the surface, removes dead skin cells, and improves skin tone. It also opens up pores and promotes younger-looking skin. So happy scrubbing!
